Pattern Filtering

Easily UpStream’s most comprehensive and far-ranging feature, Pattern Filtering is an administrator-specified set of words, terms or other criteria to be matched against inbound email that can be used to definitively block or allow content matching the Pattern Filter.

Want to prevent certain words from being used in emails, like common marketing terms or symbols that occur when other alphabets are converted into English? Maybe block entire domains from ever contacting your users? This is the place to do it!

  • Specify any string needed to match against and set the action to take upon it, and you’re all done.

  • Want to get real fancy with it? Use Regular Expressions (RegEx) to configure wildcard variables and more.

  • Need to get conditional? Require filters to match against multiple Pattern Filters to trigger.

Anything you need to specifically block or allow that doesn’t fit one of UpStream’s many other feature sets like GeoBlocking, Impersonation, etc, it can be done right here in Pattern Filters.

While Pattern Filters are meant for inbound emails, an even fancier version of the functionality exists for outbound emails that includes redirection, blocking, encryption (optional) and more. This “outbound pattern filtering” can be found under our Data Leak Prevention feature. Read me about that here.
