Change your existing MX record to a priority level of 20
(see "Stopping More Spam" below)
Add two new MX records to your DNS server, These will be the Tangent Primary and Secondary
MX Servers (mail gateways).
Tangent Primary MX Server (priority level 1)
Tangent Secondary MX Server (priority level 10)
Tangent will notify you via email once your domain name has been added to our Barracuda servers. This notification will include the primary and secondary MX server names that you will enter into your DNS server. Your notification will also include helpful FAQ and information links. Please retain this email notification for your records.

Important
DO NOT use a Tangent IP address in place of the Primary and Secondary MX server names we provide you. If you resolve the MX server names we provide you to a Tangent IP address and use the IP address in place of the MX server names, your mail may be delayed or lost when we do routine maintenance on our servers.
DO NOT remove or add any other records to your DNS server to use our service. You do not need to remove any Alias (A) records or Host records in this process. It is important that these records remain as they are.
DO NOT reconfigure your mail server to send outgoing email to our Barracuda service. Barracuda does not filter outgoing email and can not be used as a relay service.
NOTIFY Tangent Barracuda if you are going to change the IP address of your mail server for ANY reason. Failure to do so will result in mail delays.

This will notify mail servers across the internet that email destined for your domain should first be sent to Tangent’s Primary MX Server. Barracuda filters your email for Spam and Viruses and instantly forwards your good email to the mail server specified by you.
As a security precaution, If the Tangent primary MX server is down for any reason, your mail will automatically be redirected to Tangent’s secondary MX server ensuring that none of your email is ever lost.
If both the Tangent primary and secondary MX servers were down, all email would be instantly forwarded (without filtering) directly to your mail server.

Stopping More Spam
Spammers send email to ALL MX records listed on your DNS server. To reduce the amount of spam sent directly to your mail server, bypassing our filtering service, we recommend that you remove the MX record for your local mail server.
We recommend that you take this step 24-48 hours after the start of the trial.
Tangent Primary and Secondary MX servers would both have to be down for an extended period of time (more than 48 hours) in order for you to loose any mail. Tangent maintains redundant network operating centers in disperse locations as a precaution against such an event happening.

Some DNS servers will require you to increment your "serial number". This informs all other DNS servers that you have recently made changes to your setup.
Once you have changed the MX records on your DNS Server, you can verify them using the following utility. Please Note: It can take up to an hour for MX record changes to take effect.
IMPORTANT : The MX records you added SHOULD NOT have your domain name appended to them. If this happens then your particular DNS server requires that you input a "PERIOD" at the end of the Tangent MX server names as you enter them.
( ie: MX.TANGENT.COM. in lieu of MX.TANGENT.COM )
To verify that your domain has been added to Barracuda, please use the following lookup utility.
